Rockin' Car Show

Luckenbach, Texas
June 20, 2009

We headed to Fredericksburg on June 19 in our 1983 Oldsmobile 98 along with Bill and Mary Szelag in their 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30. We stopped at the Nutty Brown Cafe in Dripping Springs on the way to enjoy lunch. Good food.

There are no places to stay in Luckenbach so we were staying in Fredericksburg (a short 10 minute drive). We checked in and started walking down the main street in Fredericksburg (US 290). We stopped and toured the Nimitz museum (plan on spending a couple of hours if you want to also catch the tour). Then we went back to our rooms and rested up a little while before heading over to Luckenbach.

The car show would be the next day but participants were invited to show up on Friday for barbeque and a chance to pick out a spot to park on Saturday. For those of you who have never been to Luckenbach it is a spot along the backroads that you can drive past in less than a minute. We selected a couple of good spots and enjoyed the live music on Friday night along with the fajitas.

There were about 240 cars for the show. As you can see from the photos the setting was beautiful. There was a good mix of all types of vehicles. Live music played all day and awards were presented around 4 pm. Bill and Mary took home first place in the "Buick-Olds-Pontiac" class.

We are planning to go back next year. This was a great car show in a great setting and the money raised benefitted the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Texas Hill Country. Check out their web site and look for announcements of the 2010 show.
