This car (truck?) belonged to a long-time friend who is an amazing mechanic, machinist, perfectionist. My husband located and arranged the purchase for him.

We knew him before we bought the Impala. He was friends with the Impala's owner for years and had asked him to sell it to him when he was ready to part with it. One day we walked into the owner's upholstery business and saw the Impala outside, asked him if he was interested in selling, he said yes and we struck a deal on the spot. Our friend was shocked he wasn't given first right of refusal. He has wanted this car for a long time. We ran into him at a car show and he was in the freshly redone El Camino and we appreciated the beautiful work he had done. A few months later we asked if he might be interested in trading his El Camino for the Impala. We struck a deal and our friend immediately began his custom restoration on the Impala and we are enjoying driving the completed El Camino.

During the 1980s Choo-Choo customs utilized the Monte Carlo SS front end to create the El Camino SS - a General Motors backed custom build. An estimated 4,950 El Camino SS Choo-Choo Customs were produced over a 5-year period for model years 1983 - 1987. 995 were presumed built in 1986. The package included the aerodynamic front end, designer door handle inserts and a power hood scoop. SS decals are on the front, sides and tailgate. The original seats were replaced with Thunderbird power seats and are covered with two shades of grey leather. Extra insulation for noise and heat reduction is above a custom headliner made by the owner and features the Chevrolet bow-tie emblem in the center. He did not replace the decal on the front but we have the new decal.
