1967 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible - Before

We began the teardown right away - pulled the frame out for refinishing.

Sandblasted the frame and then I painted it black enamel - my first big paint project.

The car was very solid - no holes in the trunk pan or floorpan.

After the frame had been sandblasted we installed new body mounts before placing the body back on the frame. New or rebuilt parts included: carpet, full interior, and new door sill plates. All weatherstrips were replaced for trunk, doors, hood, felt weatherstrips for windows, and rear window vertical weatherstrips. A new convertible top with new top cylinders and hydraulic hoses and top mechanism weatherstrips were installed. The front end components (new coil springs front and rear), new ball joints, tie rod ends and more were all new. The clock was repaired. A new trunk mat was installed after the trunk was painted with the correct turquoise/black spatter paint. A new firewall pad was installed as well as a new heater core. There was also a new exhaust system, all brakes were rebuilt, and new master cylinder and brake hoses installed.

The original 400 cubic inch engine was good. We bored the original block .30 over and resurfaced the original heads. New oil pickup and all new engine gaskets were replaced. We also had new spark plug wires, spark plugs, coil, water pump, thermostat and gasket, heavy duty radiator, fan clutch, alternator and voltage regulator and new battery and cables. A new a.c. compressor, drier and POA valve and a.c. hoses were installed and freon renewed. New hood insulation was installed. The windshield was installed and resealed after the car was painted. Bumpers were rechromed. No parts went untouched or replaced. We were pleased with our first frame off restoration results.
