1966 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 W-30

We were contacted in December, 2023 by someone who has purchased this car. I had never listed it on the website as we had bought it long before I started our website. The car owner wanted to find out more information about the car as it was a recent purchase from the owner in England and returned to the United States. This has spurred me on to dig through old records we had on the car since neither I nor my husband could recall the car. Once we started finding records we remembered a bit more about it.

We purchased this car in 1990 from a man in Borger, Texas. My husband had met him at a car show either in Amarillo or Borger when he was visiting up there. He had a nice 1964 Chevrolet Impala Convertible 409 and we had our 1964 Impala 409 that we had not yet done any work on. On this 442 the intake manifold, tri-power and air cleaner were missing but the body itself was in pretty good condition. I have provided the prevoius owner's name to the current owner and they are attempting to find him to hopefully discover some more history on the car.

We had the car until 1993 when we sold it to Jim Stohlman who had Stohlman Motors in Alexandria, Virginia. He had come to look at a 1967 442 2-door hardtop we had for sale at the time (1993). When he spotted this W-30 car he was very interested. The battery cable still ran from the engine compartment to the trunk. The correct radiator support was on the car with the factory cutouts for the air intake hoses than would be routed from the air cleaner. He knew quite a bit about these cars and wanted to buy it. We had too many cars and projects at the time and we had not planned to sell that one. We conditioned the sale on his agreement to also buy the 1967 442. He bought both. See the pictures of the car in the "before" condition when Jim bought it.

Jim later sent us a letter when he was almost totally finished with the car. He did a beautiful restoration on it. His letter to us is not dated so I don't know exactly when he finished it but it was definitely an impressive build. The following pictures below are those he sent us.

The following information was provided by the brother of the gentleman who purchased the car:
"Jim did a nice restoration on the car and it has been in London the last 25-30 years. It’s now back home in the states and in Colorado. It is one of 54 built and one of 17 known to exist. Until my brother brought it back to the states, it was the only one out of country."

We wish them success in tracing the car's history prior to our purchase.
